You really don’t have to think about it- the headline kind of generates itself. Sure, “très chic” has become a fashion colloquialism and it’s a popular expression in, you know, French- and perhaps it’s not particularly deep, creative, or witty play on words… but who cares?
It’s true: trays are chic.
No matter where you put one- a coffee table with books, candles, and flowers, on a vanity to showcase your perfume collection or favorite jewels, on a dining room credenza to organize liquor bottles and bar accessories for easy entertainment, or in my lap with a plate of pancakes and cup of coffee while I’m adjusting to the morning (my favorite utilization method of the tray)- trays step things up a notch… literally and figuratively.
Trays have joined headbands, jewelry boxes, lockets, 1st edition copies of books, and perfume bottles on the list of items I collect. Ironically, the more I collect items like headbands, perfume bottles, and lockets, the more trays I need to show them off! If you thought there was no way to justify purchasing a decorative item, there you have it.
There’s a certain appeal to trays that, I assume, appeals to stylists and people with OCD everywhere; they are the perfect palette to create small vignettes. It’s a whole lot easier styling a confined 10″ by 14″ area than decorating a room or entire house! Plus, the items on trays don’t have to remain static; you can change the items or color palette at any time by rotating small items whenever you want! That’s a whole lot easier than repainting a room every time you want to change your color palette- trust me, I painted my bedroom 6 times between the ages of 13 and 17. True story.

I need to revamp my jewelry organization. My best friend just got me a couple of twig tree organizers but I also need some trays. I love the second to last picture.
