When asked what the source of my inspiration is, I have to take the time to think of an answer that most directly answers the question; otherwise, I would leave my interviewer confused about how my love of rainy days and glitter, heavy alternative rock and soft feminine clothing, and chemistry textbooks and fashion magazines can all coexist harmoniously in one person. I could talk about my life: how I excelled in both biochemistry and English- quite the odd combination- how I love playing music and singing but won’t perform in front of anyone, or how I’ve always loved fashion but never considered it a career path for me until recently. All of this rambling leads us to the conclusion that I’m a living example of irony, but doesn’t surmise any elucidation to the original question.
What inspires me?
To avoid publishing a list compiled by an ADHD blogger, my answer- short and sweet- is that my inspiration comes from images. Of course this is a tremendous over-generalization, but when you live on the outskirts of the fashion world, not within, books, magazines, and blogs- images- are all you have. Any fellow Pinterest addict would probably agree that being inundated with images is by no means a bad thing. As long as you are true to yourself, your blog can be the medium to showcase your personal taste and views from the outside without having to live vicariously through fashion “insiders”. One variety of images that inspires me in particular are photos of designer’s clothing collections. Currently, one of my favorite collections is Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet.

The images of this collection bring many parts of speech to mind and evoke so much imagery: Old Hollywood Glamour, feminine, vintage, modern, confidence, Art Deco, cinema noir, The Great Gatsby, etc. It’s remarkable that an image like the one above can influence the creative process. For example, as shown in my previous post, I may feel inspired to try a new beauty look like an emerald smokey eye.
