I spent most of my Saturday afternoon happily flipping through saved copies of old issues of my favorite fashion and design magazines, and because I’ve been in an “organize it!”/”redecorate” mood, an article on accessory organization from Lucky caught my attention even more the second time than the first. The article, called “How To: Organize Your Stuff”, was published in the April 2012 issue and shows some pretty creative ways to showcase your accessories instead of stowing them away.
I don’t know if it’s the fact that Rachel Bilson is on the cover of this issue, or because these pictures show so many pairs of shoes, but now I have the urge to buy my entire ShoeMint showroom!

Make your home look like a high-end boutique by showcasing your shoes in a glass cabinet or hutch (this one is from Ikea)! Add as many shelves as you need to maximize your storage- glass shelves are relatively inexpensive but look luxurious! You can even paint the back of your display case a lighter shade like this beautiful pink (like Romantic Pink by Benjamin Moore) to really make your shoes stand out! Have one pair you love so much you can hardly stand to wear them? Place them under a bell jar, the ultimate display case! This one is from ZGallerie and is only $60!

Instead of using ledges for pictures, hang your party heels like fine art! To create the perfect dressing area, Lucky painted the ledges (Sweet Innocence by Benjamin Moore) and the walls (Misty Lilac), added a chair, and hung a pretty Alice + Olivia dress.

Prefer a more discreet, tidy stockroom look? Purchase regular open bookcases to fill a nook and install a curtain rod and two panels in front, so you have the option to leave them open or closed. Keep your collection organized by placing all your shoes in matching boxes. For easy identification, take polaroids of your shoes to put of the front of each box. (The bookcases and boxes are both by Ikea).

Create an art wall by placing hooks in your wall above your dresser and hanging your favorite statement necklaces. Dress up your vanity with candy jars and pedestals for perfect bracelet and ring storage. To get the ultimate glamorous look, add a vanity tray with vintage perfume bottles- one of my obsessions!

Use an open credenza to store bags and clutches. Add shelves for wallets, clutches, and handbags, and add hooks to hang shoulder bags. You can either keep this piece in your closet (if it fits!) or put it out in the open to show off your favorite bags.
Would you showcase your accessories or do you prefer to store them?

I love having my shoes on show! The Billy Bookcases I got for my dressing room were so inexpensive but being able to see all my shoes at once is fab
I painted the backs a pale turquoise and it just makes the shoes pop against the backdrop. I love the idea of the hooks for the bags!
